Description | Petitions presented to the Assembly covered a wide range of business. They include petitions to be made free, to make alterations to property, to acquire grants or leases for lives of city land and petitions for redress of grievances. These sixteenth century petitions appear to have been files separately from the Assembly files (AF). There is evidence that the first file (AP/1) existed during the time of Randle Holme II, whilst the second file (AP/2) appears to be contemporary with the mayoralties of William Aldersey, 1595-96 and Richard Rathbone, 1598-99. They were repaired in the 1930s. |
