Administrative History | Frank Simpson (1863-1942) was an authority on the history of Chester. He was a keen amateur photographer and his published works include "A History of the Church of St. Peter in Chester" (1909), "The Walls of Chester" (1910) and articles in the Journal of the Chester Archaeological Society. Frank Simpson became a freeman of Chester at the age of 21 and was later admitted to the Skinners and Feltmakers Company. He was president of the Chester Guilds in 1940. Frank Simpson became a member of the Chester Archaeological Society in 1902 and was elected to the Council of the Society in 1905. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians in 1913. During the First World War, Frank Simpson took an active interest in the Volunteer movement and was a lieutenant and Quartermaster of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.
