| Administrative History | The leadworks at Chester were erected in 1800 by Walkers, Maltby and Company. The company name was changed to Walkers, Parker and Company in the 1830's and played a significant role in Chester's industrial development in the nineteenth century. By the 1950s, the firm's name had changed again to Associated Lead Manufacturers Ltd. Most manufacturing ceased at Chester in the early 1980s, although Cookson Industrial materials continued production on a smaller site, still using the origional shot tower, during the 1990's. The headquarters of Associated Lead Manufacturers Ltd are based at Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the majority of its records are there. |
