Administrative History | Following the establishment of the National Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor in the Principles of the Established Church in 1811, a committee under the patronage of the bishop of Chester set up in the same year, founded this school in 1812. In 1816, it moved to new premises in on the south side of George Street. Teachers were trained here in the Madras system of instruction by monitors for the benefit of the whole diocese see Fowler op. cit. p.46. The school was closed in 1908, the pupils being transferred to George Street School. |
