Administrative HistoryChrist Church Boys' School [see DES/1] was in Bishopfield, Hoole, from 1855, and took in pupils from Christ Church parish and Hoole. The first extant log book for All Saints' School [see DES/26/1] is inscribed `Christ Church Bishopfield', and starts in 1863. The new parish of All Saints', Hoole, was formed in 1867.
Phillipson and Golder's Chester Directory for 1878/79 gives Christ Church Boys' School as situated in Black Diamond Street. The school probably moved there c. 1870 because the H.M.I. reports for All Saints' School are headed `Flookersbrook Ch-Ch. N.S.' from 1865-70 but after that as `Hoole All Saints' only, [see DES/26/10]. Certain classes were held later in Back Brook Street as appears from the Christ Church log book 1874-1901 [DES/2/1]. The accommodation became increasingly inadequate and after the City Council became the local education authority in 1902 adverse reports from H.M.I. led to the construction of a new school in George Street in 1908. The boys moved in June, the records continuing after noting the change in name.
In January 1909 most of the boys and staff from the Diocesan Central School, already in older premises in George Street, were transferred to the new school.
In 1948 the school closed, the older boys going to Love Street Secondary Modern School.
This school opened in 1908 to replace Christ Church Boys' School. In January 1909, it was amalgamated with the Diocesan School for Boys. The school closed in 1948, when the older boys were transferred to Love Street Secondary School.
