Administrative History | The first extant log book of All Saints' C.E. School for Boys begins in 1863 but reflects a school already in existence. The title page is inscribed `Christ Church Bishopsfield', It is known that the boys' department of Christ Church Parochial School was transferred to new premises in Bishopsfield, Hoole, in 1855 (see introduction to ZDES 2). In 1870 Christ Church Boys' School moved to premises in Black Diamond Street, Newtown, and the managers transferred premises in Westminster Road to the managers of All Saints' School. The boys of All Saints' remained in Westminster Road until a new school was built in School Street in 1887, to which they transferred in 1888. Westminster Road Girls' and Infant School was opened in Peploe Street (later renamed Westminster Road), Hoole, in 1865. Additions were made to the building in 1893. In 1954 a boundary extension resulted in the incorporation of Hoole into the City of Chester, and in 1955 reorganisation of the schools in Hoole involved the amalgamation of the boys of All Saints' with the girls of Westminster Road to form Westminster C.E. Junior School. The infants moved from Westminster Road into the school vacated by the boys in School Street, which was renamed All Saints' C.E. Infant School. In September 1972, as part of a general reorganisation of Chester schools, Westminster C.E. Junior School was transferred to a site opposite the City Hospital in Hoole Lane. It was developed as a middle school, for children aged eight to twelve, and named St. James' Middle School. All Saints' C.E. Infant School continued as a first school, for children aged five to eight and an annexe to St. James' Middle School and St. Werburgh's R.C. First School. |
