Administrative History | Hilary Haworth Nursery School, on the Lache Estate, was opened on 29 October 1935. It was one of the first nursery schools in the country, and its establishment was pioneered by a committee of Chester ladies, in association with the Nursery School Association of Great Britain. The principle benefactors of the school were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haworth, who gave the school buildings in memory of their daughter, Hilary. The school site was the gift of Chester Corporation, and the school was planned in conjunction with the Lache Housing Scheme. Hilary Haworth Nursery School was run on a voluntary basis until transfer to Chester Corporation in August 1940. |
