Administrative HistoryChester Technical Institute consisted of a senior department, and junior departments for girls and boys. The Institute provided evening classes only, and courses in the senior department included engineering and building. The junior department provided more elementary courses in english, arithmetic, practical drawing and mathematics, with dressmaking and cookery for the girls. The Technical Institute developed from the School of Art, at the Grosvenor Museum from 1886, and the senior department of the Technical Institute was housed at the Grosvenor Museum. The Junior Departments' classes were held in Love Street Council School. There were separate head-teachers for the three departments, until the junior girls' and boys' departments were amalgamated in 1940. The Technical Institute was the forerunner of Chester College of Further Education, opened in Eaton Road, Handbridge, in 1956.
