Administrative History | St. Werburgh's R.C. Infant School was a department of the school built in Queen Street in 1854. A school had probably been in existence there before 1854, as the Roman Catholic Church of St. Werburgh had been opened in Queen Street in 1799, and in 1847 Roman Catholics were admitted to a share in the government grant to education. Additional school buildings were erected in 1870. The juniors left Queen Street in 1967, and the school in Queen Street closed when the infants moved to new premises in Westminster Road, Hoole, in 1968. In 1972, the school was redesignated St. Werburgh's R.C. First School. |
