Administrative History | In June 1960 the Council established a handicraft school for spastic children at Dee Banks, Great Boughton, and in February 1961 it approved the establishment of an adult training centre at the same school. The Health Department was responsible for the administration of the school until April 1971, when local health authorities were deprived of their powers to provide training for handicapped children by the Education (Handicapped Children) Act of 1970. The object of this Act was to bring within the educational system those children previously determined unsuitable for education at school. The administration of Dee Banks School was therefore separated from that of the adult training centre and transferred to the Education Department. |
