Administrative HistoryLove Street School opened in June 1909, and became a secondary modern school after the Education Act of 1944. In 1948 most of the older boys of George Street Council School were transferred to Love Street with consequent overcrowding. In 1953 Love Street became a girls' school when the boys were transferred to Overleigh Secondary School. Love Street closed in March 1967 when the school was transferred to new premises in Blacon and renamed Charles Kingsley Secondary School.

Hoole Secondary School was opened as a mixed school in Kingsway, Newton, in June 1958, and the minutes of the Education Committee for 15 April 1958 record its resolution that this school should be governed by the same governing body as Overleigh and Love Street Schools [See Minutes of Proceedings of the Education Committee, 1957-1958 p.207.
