Administrative History | Commonhall Street Infant School was the first infant school established by Chester British Schools Association, which obtained a fifty six year lease of a chapel in Commonhall Street in February 1875. The school closed in May 1876 because of poor attendance and lack of funds. Boughton British Infant School opened in June 1880, associated with Boughton Congregational Church. Boughton British Schools were independent of Chester British Schools Association until May 1891, when financial difficulties forced the managers to ask Chester British Schools Association to take over the management of the Boughton Schools [see ZD/ES/5/2, minutes for 19 May 1891]. The school closed in May 1910 when the new Cherry Grove Council Infant School was opened. [See ZD/ES/32/1-7]. The reason for the Commonhall Street and the Boughton entries being in the same Log Book, although the schools were under different managements, has not been explained. |
