TitleSalt Chamber of Commerce
Date1859-1936
Administrative HistoryThe primary function of the Salt Chamber of Commerce appears to have been to act as a forum for considering issues relating to the salt industry and to facilitate communications between the salt industry and government. One of its main activities was to gather, collate and circulate statistical information about the salt trade, including figures for import and export. It also lobbied government departments, particularly the Board of Trade, on matters relating to tariffs imposed by foreign governments. Both H E and H J Falk acted as Presidents of the Salt Chamber of Commerce. the subscription list shows that the Salt Union and, later, Brunner Mond paid well over half the total.
