TitleParliamentary election papers
Date1847-1892
DescriptionThese papers relate to the parliamentary elections of 1848, 1868 and 1874 and the county council election of 1892. The parliamentary papers are the result of electoral work undertaken by the firm of Blake and Trafford, solicitors of Northwich, and the county electoral papers result from that of Herbert Hatt Cook of Trafford and Cook, also solicitors of Northwich. These firms subsequently became Hatt Cook Chambers and Kershaw, and were predecessors of the present firm.
Administrative history: After the Reform Act, 1832, Cheshire comprised two constituencies, the North Cheshire Division (hundreds of Macclesfield and Bucklow) and the South Cheshire Division (hundreds of Broxton, Eddisbury, Nantwich, Northwich and Wirral). These were increased to three by the Representation of the People Act 1867: North Cheshire Division (hundred of Macclesfield), Mid-Cheshire Division (hundreds of Bucklow and Northwich) and South Cheshire division (hundreds of Broxton, Eddisbury, Nantwich and Wirral)."
