Cestr' [Chester] by warrant of Letters Close date apud Cestr' [Chester] 24 May 1549 directed to the Escheator in com. Cestr' [Chester] (recited), of the next heir of John Hobson who died 27 July 1540 and was named in an Inquisition taken before the Escheator and returned in the Exchequer of Cestr' [Chester] - one Nicholas Hobson his son who was 14 years old when the Inquisition was taken but is of age as from 24 June next - into the estate held at the time of his death by John Hobson as of fee of the late King Henry VIII as of his castle of Halton' [Halton] (castri sui de Halton') by service of one fortieth of a knight's fee at a rent of 20d. per annum in one messuage 20 acres of land, 5 acres of meadow, 40 acres of pasture, 3 acres of wood, 3 acres of heath, 3 acres of moor with their appurtenances, in Oueralderley [Over Alderley] in com. Cestr' [Chester] value per annum 44s.

Endorsed: certificate of possession and livery of seisin by Thomas Hurleton the same day witnessed by John Birtils junior, John Dauenport, Robert Pateson, Roger........, Thomas........, Ralph........, and another whose signature is wholly illegible.
