DescriptionCharter of Incorporation of the Free Grammar School of King Edward VI in the township of Macclesfeild [Macclesfield] parish of Presbury [Prestbury] county of Chester, and of a corporate body of Governors to consist of 14 of the more honest and discreet inhabitants of the said village and parish to administer the lands endowed in Trust and to appoint one master of tutor and one subtutor or usher with the advice of the Bishop of Chester for the time being and to set down in writing statutes and ordinances for the ordering of the Master and Usher and Scholars and the stipends to be paid; grant of a common seal to the Governers; grant of lands in the king's hand "by the provision or protection of the Act of Diverse Cantaries Colledges Gilds Fraternities and Free Capelles Dispatched And Determined In our parliament...at Westminster in the first year of our Reigne" total value £21.5.0.per annum, to be held as of the Royal Manor of East Greenwich in Kent as from Michaelmas last past paying 25s. per annum to the Court of the Augmentations and Revenues of the Crown at Michaelmas therefor.

Lands specified as endowments - all that small messuage or tenement and one small croft lying on the south part of the lands of Chester (teritorie of Chester), 16 acres now or lately held by Robert Hankey in Chester being parcels of the lands called le prebend Lands lately belonging to the Colledge of St.John the Baptist in the citie of Chester and being late parcel of the possessions thereof, three crofts of land and one close of land called Le flat, one barn and one meadow in the Common Feild of Chester now or late occupied by Joan Radford widow in Chester parcels of the afsd prebend lands, a whole close of land or pasture of ours now or late held by Robert Joanes mercer near Holle Rake parcel of the sd prebend lands adjoining the sd College, all that late Cantarie called the pettie Cannon within the City of Chester with all its rights, all the houses, buildings, lands, tenements, meadows, pastures and hereditaments whatsoever now or late held by Richard Brereton Kt or otherwise appurtenant to the said Cantarie, the lands and properties now or late held separately by Roger Stubbs, William Johnson, Roger Row, Christopher Greaves, Thomas Stapleton, William Linghard, John Hall, Thomas Marlour, James Braster, Widow Janny, John Sumpner, and the late wife of Phillip Lees, and a tenement called le schoole house, with all their appurtenances; situate in Macclesfeild [Macclesfield], Broken Cross, Motteram [Mottram], and Presbury [Prestbury], which have heretofore been granted for the maintenance of a grammar school in Macclesfeild [Macclesfield].

Surrender and Admittance (Fine 3s.9d.) for 88 years of an estate in two parts to use of John Davenport and Mary his wife or the survivor and to use of Thomas Davenport (his?) son and Mary his wife or the survivor respectively, remainder(John) Davenport (?); in a messuage in Pottshrigley [Pott Shrigley] formerly held by Thomas Smale of Pottshrigley [Pott Shrigley] yeoman and now or lately held by "him the sd John Davenporte or by the......."
