Witnesses of sealing and delivery (endorsed): John Brooke, H. Mores, Roger Warde his sign "L".

Bargain and sale in consideration of £50 with covenant to transfer evidences of title and to assure the same; of messuages and tenements in the Manor of Maxfeilde [Macclesfield] (or Maxfeild) viz;- one called Butterlandes lately occupied by Hugh Hordren in Sutton, one called Stepull occupied by Thomas Greene in Sutton, one occupied by Richard Berren in Sutton, one held by John Potte in Sutton, one held by Richard Bradshawe in Sutton - and all Roger Downes's other copyhold lands etc in the sd. Manor; with proviso that if Downes repays £50 to Stapleton by 1 September 1603 an Obligation in £100 of even date with this Indenture acknowledged by Roger Downes to Thomas Stapleton before the mayor of the City of Chester and the Recorder of the same City is to be null and void.
