DescriptionOrder to the Escheator of co. Darb' [Derby] for the admittance of Richard Stevenson a ward in Chancery who has come of age, to the estates held by his father George Stevenson dcsd son of Richard Stevenson deceased, which are described in 1. an Inquisition Post Mortem made by Thomas Yevley Gent lately escheator for Queen Elizabeth for co. Darb' [Derby] upon George Stevenson Gent dcsd and in 2. an Inquisition made by virtue of a commission post mortem George Stevenson Gent directed to John Bullocke Esq feodary of the name late Queen in the same county and Edmund Booth Esq lately escheator in that county and John Bullocke Esq. These inquisitions are recited, and show that George died 4 October 1599 (41 Eliz I) - his son and heir Richard being 8 years old on 23 October 1599 - seised in possession or reversion of the following estates:- 8 acres of land with appurtenances in Hope co. Darb' [Derby] in a place called Brugh which Richard Stevenson father of George Stevenson held as of fee and demised by his will in writing to his sons Henry and John for life remainder George, whereof John having died and Henry survived the remainder descended to George; 2 messuages, 2 gardens, 80 acres land, 15 acres meadow, 15 acres pasture, 40 acres wood, with appurtenances in Hope, including land in Shatters Overton and Brugh hamlets parcel of the town of Hope held of the late Queen as of her manor of Hope parcel of the Duchy of Lancaster by fealty and 2 bovates of land in Shatton held of the Queen in chief by knight-service of guarding the Forest of High Peak (de Alto Pecco) of Hope Dale; 2 messuages, 2 gardens, 20 acres land, 5 acres meadow, 5 acres pasture, with appurtenances in Chappell in le Frith in co. Darbia which were held of the Queen as of her manor of High Peak (de Alto Pecco) parcel of the Duchy of Lancaster by fealty and 4s. 6d.per annum with herriot of best beast, whereof George was seised of the reversion of leases viz;- Indenture 1 May 1595 (37 Eliz I) lease by George Stevenson and John Stevenson to Thomas Yeveley for 21 years at 20s.per annum to John and herriot of best beast of a messuage in a place called the Eves in Chappell in le Frith co. Derb' [Derby] then occupied by George Yeveley father of the sd Thomas Yeveley, and Indenture 1 May 1595 lease by George Stevenson and John Stevenson to Ralph Kyrke for 21 years at 20s. per annum to John Stevenson with herriot of best beast of all the rest of the lands etc in Chappell in le Frith co. Derb [Derby]. i.e. a messuage called Jumble then occupied by the sd Ralph.
