DescriptionParties. 1. Peter Brooke of Moir, Esq., and Frances his wife, 2. Edward Barber of Pottsrigley [Pott Shrigley], farmer.

Draft articles of agreement on conditions of a lease for 21 years at £30 per annum, with covenant to Surrender within 20 months (one copy an original draft with amendments, the other a final draft), of Birchincliff in Pottsrigley [Pott Shrigley] and a close called "the moore" with rights to "mine or sough for any mines of metle such as lead coper jornston limeston tinn or cole". An endorsement reads;- Edward Barbers Articles drawn by Mr.Bradburne. Alterations insisted on by Edward Barber in the new Articles I drew myself. That he has the Benefit either of selling the Materials in the old house to save the charge of Repairs or to repair it as he pleases. That Edward Barber shall not be obliged to leave the [Parlour] Carthouse Chamber Floor in any better repair than it [is] now is. Hee is to be allowed [shuch] such Timber as Mr.Brookes shall appoint for building and repairs and also to have Cartboote and Plowboote.

Edwd. Barber to be stinted in plowing for the last 3 years to 5 acres & no meadowing.

Physical DescriptionPaper: Two sheets 16" wide by 13" folded to 8" wide by 13"; text in each case on p.1. Watermarks. Rust-holes indicate former presence of a pin. Seal on the emended (first) draft a signet en placard, red, round, 15mm diam., chipped at edges, device an heraldic beast rampant; duty stamps 1s.6d. ("triple stamp'd paper"). On the final draft the same signet en placard; duty stamps 1s.6d.
