Bargain and Sale in consideration of £5s., for term of 1 year, to lead the uses of a Release to be made of the manor or lordship (or reputed ditto) of Worth, county of Chester, the capital messuage in Worth called the Hall of Worth formerly in possession of Edward Downes Esq., dcsd, late grandfather of Peter Downes, afterwards of Edward Downes Esq., also dcsd, late father of Peter Downes, then of John Downes, now of James Richardson tenant; and messuages in Worth called Lower Worth occupied by James Richardson, Dale's Tenement occupied by James Richardson, another by Peter Gaskell, Pointon Lane Ends by the heirs of Thomas Clowes dscd, another by Thomas Worth, Hepley formerly by Mary Wood widow dcsd, now by William Clayton, Rixon's and Brereton's tenements by David Shaw, Dog-Hill Green by Philip Agecroft, another by the heirs of Samuel Jepson and Richard Jepson dcsd, Wood's o' th' Lane formerly occupied by Mary Wood of Yorkshire, widow, now by George Priestnall, another by Thomas Shrigley; and of fields, closes and pieces of land in Worth and Adlington, county of Chester, called the Horse-Grasses, Grandmother's Croft, occupied by Joshua Dicken; tenements in Worth called Hig Lane occupied by John Norbury, another by John Wood, Hockley by William Clayton; and of chief rents, 13s. 4d. per annum from lands in Torkington, county of Chester, the inheritance of Peter Legh of Booths, Esq., 1s.8d. from lands in Taxall county of Chester or in Fearny Lee Hamlett county of Derby, late the inheritance of John Shallcross Esq., dcsd, 2s. per annum from lands in Hurdsfield county of Chester, called Swanscoe Lodge and Swanscoe Park, late the inheritance of William Watson Gent., 3s. 8d. per annum from a messuage in Tytherington county of Chester formerly the inheritance of John Hough; AND of the manor and lordship (or reputed ditto) of Nether Padley county of Derby, a messuage in Nether Padley occupied by James Brightmore, another formerly occupied by John Froggatt but now also by James Brightmore, another by William Oliver, another by Samuel Oliver; and of a piece of ground or a close in Nether Padley, called the Haugh now occupied by Joseph Oliver, a messuage in Nether Padley occupied by Nicholas Green, a at Mill Stone Delph, or Stone Quarry in Nether Padley occupied by Mr Watson; AND all other lands etc., of Peter Downes in Worth, Pointon [Poynton], Adlington, Torkington, Whitefield, Hurdsfield, Taxall [Taxal], and Tytherington, county of Chester, and Nether Padley, Grindleford Hope, and Hathersage county of Derby.

Physical DescriptionParchment: 2 membranes (1) 33" wide by 24" and (2) 33" wide by 26". Secured through turn-up by two thongs of parchment and the white seal-tape. Turn-up cut away right-hand side in a strip 10" long and 3" wide. Seal applied on tape in turn-up, red, round, 19mm diam, device an heraldic crest, a stag over the monogram PD.
