DescriptionQuietus examined and signed by S. Godolphin, Auditor, issued to Edward Downes Esq., late Sheriff of the County Palatine of Chester, upon his Compotus for that Office rendered by Israel Atherton, Gent., Undersheriff, for the year ended Michaelmas 1724 (11 George); showing that the said late Sheriff was liable for £4. 16. 8. against which he is allowed various sums: £20 for the Sheriff's fee, 30s. for preparing his Compotus, £20 for payments to Spencer Cowper Esq., Francis Winnington and E. Milles Esq., successive deputies of Edward Jeffreys Esq., Justice of Assize held there at two separate weeks, 40s. for the salary of Charles Aldcroft, ordinary at the assize, £14 for the expenses of the J.P's. at the Sessions of the Peace, £64. 9. 8. for various expenses allowed by Warrant of The Rt. Hon.Robert Walpole, K.B., Chancellor and Under-Treasurer of the Exchequer, 5 July 1725. Total allowance £121. 19. 8., giving an Overplus of £117. 3. 0., wherefor he is quit.
