DateJun 12 1787
DescriptionMemorandum.

Abstract of information made for Peter Downes about Prestbury Church and Parish, taken from Vestry Books, dates 1739 - 1764 (which latter is a copy of an entry transferred from 'an old Parchment register dated 6 December 1558, entered in Prestbury Vestry Book June 12th 1764')

Matters dealt with:- 1. Estimated cost of rebuilding South Side of Prestbury church by comparison with cost of alterations to N. side of church as shown in entries of 12th October 1739 to 5th May 1750 --- 50 years cereage silver --- Downes suggests the cost is not heavy and recommends work on S. side to make it uniform with N. side -- which now has been extended 7ft. 6ins. and a gallery put in at west end. 2. Query about disposal of charity legacies. 3. Ownership of seats in church. 4. Whether these owners can hinder the projected alterations. 5. Can the Vestry grant parts of the church to an individual. 6. A True Copy of Parish Register entry 6 December 1558 (entered in Vestry Book 12 June 1764), an assessment of Cereage Silver by Sir Peeres Legh & Sir Richard Egerton Knights, and John Warren Esq., churchwardens, upon the townships of Syddington [Siddington]; Tytherington; Lower Withington; Birtles; Chelford cum Withington; Potts Shrigley [Pott Shrigley]; Macclesfield Borough; Bosley; Capesthorne; Henbury with Pexall [Pexhall]; Sutton; Wincle; Wildboarclough; Lime Handley; Fallybroome [Fallibroome]; Bollington; Hurdsfield; Prestbury; Mottram Andrew [Mottram St. Andrew]; Pointon [Poynton], Worth & Woodford; Rainow; Kettleshulme; Northroad; Marton; Upton; Newton; Adlington; Butley. Downes remarks that the assessment is unequally apportioned and queries the Vestry's power to re-distribute the assessment.
