Dear Bessy,

I rece'd your last letter with great pleasure, & am sorry I had no opportunity of answering it before, I was much obliged to dear Biddy for her short letter, & to you for helping her, but as I have no time to answer it now, shall defer it to another vacant hour.

Verses.

We have enquired about michaelmouse day
& it gives us great joy that we'er able to say
The mare choosings don't happen on that very day
So desire you will tell my Papa,
If it is agreeable to him & my Mama,
We'll prepare early that morning if fair
To Butley to go if the'll accept us there,
We likewise beg if in their power,
The'll send for us at the sixth hour,
& now this sentence for to end
We beg they won't forget to send,
My duty & love give to my Papa
& likewise the same unto my Mama,
& unto my Sisters pray do be so kind,
My affection to give with a true & good mind
& likewise remember me very kindly
To all the rest of our own family
I hope my bad writing youll freely excuse
& my letter to answer pray do not refuse
& now to conclude as I've nought more to say
I do my dear bessy bid you a good day

I hope you will approve of my verses, & will beg you to believe me to be your dutiful Brother
