Description Recovering from another severe attack of fever - in bed 2 weeks - now returned to the old routine of Picquets & Trenches - Now sharing half a house with two other officers with the Colonel in the other half. "The feeling of being between walls again is something too great for expression I have a table to write on & a stove to warm my fingers by". Health in the Regt. improving with the weather - better off than other regts., e.g. the 63rd & others which have been reduced to nothing. Praises the energy of the Colonel [Colonel Lacy Yea] throughout the winter - deserves promotion. He is now quite used to cold having lived outdoors the whole winter. Batteries now fully armed & ready for new assault. Rumours that the French Emperor is to visit the Crimea. This is not wanted by the men & would be a danger to him & to them. "I wish he would stay at home & make peace instead of coming out ... Troubridge's appointment at the Horseguards will give Shipley his majority for nothing". [PS] "If you ever have a spare Illustrated News or Punch sent it out."
