DescriptionVarious items addressed to Major Hibbert and his family on his safe return. These comprise Two poems entitled "An Acrostic" and (a) "Prayer in Battle," the latter bearing the signature "Theod: Korner" n.d. (b) Two letters to Captain Hibbert from "L. Whitby" praising his achievements and requesting him "to appear at the Ball in uniform with medal attached to your breast........I can assure you that if you appear as a civilian it will cause a general disappointment to the company, at least to the most intelligent part of it. For two reasons viz. not one in twenty has ever seen you in uniform and therefore are on the tiptoe of expectation of having their wishes gratified, also it would impart more enthusiasm and therefore more life and vigour to the entertainment" 2 Jan 1856 (c) "Testimonial to Major Hibbert." Minute of a Meeting at Macclesfield Town Hall at which a motion was passed to organise a Public Dinner in recognition of Major Hibbert's services and present him with a complimentary sword. 19 Feb 1856 (d) Two letters to Mrs Hibbert from "D.
