Title	John Baker Holroyd, 1st Earl of Sheffield (1735-1821)
Administrative History	Holroyd was chiefly noted as a statesman and friend of Edward Gibbon, the historian. He purchased Sheffield Place in Sussex in 1769 and was first created Baron Sheffield in 1781, finally being elevated to the earldom in 1816.
