Administrative HistoryCheshire East Borough Council was formed (along with Cheshire West and Chester Council) as a result of the Local Government Reorganisation of 2009 which saw the abolition of the two tier system of local government introduced in 1974. Cheshire County Council and the 6 district councils (Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council, Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, Congleton Borough Council and Macclesfield Borough Council) all ceased to exist and were replaced by two new all purpose unitary authorities 1 April 2009. Cheshire East was formed by the merging of Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, Congleton Borough Council and Macclesfield Borough Council
