| Administrative History | On the reorganisation of local government effective from April 1974, the district of Congleton Borough Council superseded the Borough Council and Rural District Council of Congleton and the Urban Districts of Alsager, Middlewich and Sandbach. The district council was superseded by Cheshire East borough council following local government reorganisation in 2009. |
