Administrative HistoryMacclesfield Borough Council was established under the 1972 Local Government Act and came into existence on 1 April 1974; although it was a District Council, it was granted Borough status by Royal grant in February 1974. The council was superseded by Cheshire East borough council following local government reorganisation in 2009.
