Administrative HistoryRuncorn Rural District Council was established in 1894. Previously it had been governed by a Local Board of Health from 1872 to 1894. The Rural District Council encompassed the following civil parishes - Acton Grange, Alvanley, Antrobus, Appleton, Aston, Bartington, Clifton, Crowley, Daresbury, Dutton, Frodsham, Frodsham Lordship, Grappenhall, Great Budworth, Halton, Hatton, Helsby, Latchford, Keckwick, Kingsley, Kingswood, Manley, Moore, Newton by Daresbury, Newton by Frodsham, Norley, Norton, Preston on the Hill, Seven Oaks, Stockham, Stretton, Thelwall, Walton, Weston and Whitley. In 1896 Latchford was transferred to Warrington Borough and in 1897 Stockton Heath civil parish was created. 1936 saw the dissolution of Acton Grange, Bartington, Clifton, Crowley, Frodsham Lordship, Keckwick, Kingswood, Latchford Without, Newton by Daresbury, Newton by Frodsham, Preston on the Hill, Seven Oaks, Stockham, Thelwall and Weston, and the creation of Preston Brook in 1974. In 1974 Runcorn Rural District amalgamated with neighbouring rural and urban districts to form the new Halton Borough Council [See: LBHa list for post-1974 records].
