Title Tarvin Poor Law Union

Description In 1871, the Great Boughton Union was reduced in size and renamed Tarvin Union. Great Boughton Union had been created in 1837, following the Poor Law Amendment Act, 1834, with one hundred and one townships in Cheshire and Flintshire. Twelve townships were transferred to Hawarden Union in 1853 and thirty to Chester Union in 1871. Tarvin Union was abolished after the Local Government Act, 1929 and the functions of the poor law guardians were transferred to county and county borough councils. The collection comprises a minute book; valuation lists; and rate account books.
