DescriptionUnder the Education Act, 1902, Chester became a local education authority with the power to found and finance schools and an Education Department was founded after that date. In 1974, following the Local Government Act, 1972, education became the responsibility of Cheshire County Council. The records include returns to the Board of Education; papers relating to the transfer of the Grosvenor Museum to the city; reports and pamphlets concerning the organisation of education in the city; and plans and other material relating to schools in Chester.
