Administrative History	The Chester Electric Lighting Order, 1890, authorised the Corporation to supply electricity to the district. The first power station was opened in Crane Street in 1895. In 1896, an Electric Lighting Department was established and the first city electrical engineer was appointed in 1898. In 1904, the department was renamed the Electricity Department. Since 1948, the electricity supply has been controlled by the Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board.
